Saturday, April 21 – Alum Scar

About 2.30 we started out up Belmont Road, about 20 of us. The day was cold and very windy, and we had a tough struggle to Tockholes. Just beyond here we turned left and finally came to Feniscowles. More turnings and we rushed downhill across a bridge then up again and a walk down along a steep track brought us to Alum Scar, a pretty little place. Climbing again, four of us missed the road, and going at evens on the fine surface we entered Preston. Here my back tyre collapsed but on pumping it up I got into Walton le Dale before it happened again. One of the lads mended it whilst I was having tea.

A game of football and then we started back again at 7.30pm. At Bamber Bridge we took the Wigan road, and after a while came to Chorley. We stopped to talk here awhile, and when we started again we got the full force of the wind.  Eleven miles of hard pushing and we arrived home at 10.30pm.
