It was rather a dull morning when I started at 8.45 for the meeting place.  At 9.10 we started, 18 of us, but at Horwich my tyre burst and it was only by getting a new inner tube that I got moving again.  They had gone on, so two of us proceeded to follow them up, from Chorley we joined the Wigan Road to Lostock Hall and Penwortham.  Crossing the River Ribble we joined the Blackpool road just past Ashton, but almost immediately took a bylane to Cottam.  The sun was now shining and the countryside was at its best.  Following the map we came to Catforth and by various bylanes we passed Inskip and reached Great Eccleston.  After a pause we took the Fleetwood road but turned sharply right and crossing Cartford Toll Bridge (one old penny) we reached the straight road to Pilling.

After joining three others we stopped at the lunch place where we came on the whole crowd.  After lunch we took the pretty road for 4.5 miles to Knott End where a yacht was invaded and a half hours sail provided an excellent diversion.  The views were wonderfully clear and several well known places were picked out.  The leader took us through several gates to the sea again near Cockerham.  Rabbits were seen in great numbers as we took the bylanes for Brock.  After a glorious run we reached Inglewhite for tea and thus home via Preston and the Wigan road to Chorley etc, covering 105 miles – the ‘Potterers’.                                      Distance 105 miles     Time 13.5 hours
