Chapter 2 is superb. Although his preface dated Feb 1928 is addressed to “readers”, he does not seem to have taken any steps to seek publication, what he writes is of the highest quality, and I would put it on par with Kuklos’s published work. What a pity he was not encouraged to publish; just think how much more there might have been.

I have two volumes of Davie Bell’s Highwayman writings, and although there is more of it, being culled from regular newspaper articles, I don’t think they come up to Charlie’s prose. I look forward to Vols 3 & 4.
